Making smART Connections Conference 2009 |

"Making smART Connections" Arts Education Conference was held in May 2009 at the High Peaks Resort in Lake Placid, NY. The conference was co-sponsored by the New York State Alliance for Arts Education and the Adirondack Arts in Education Partnership with generous assistance by the North Country Teacher Resource Center, Champlain Valley Educational Services and the AAIEP Consortium Members. Educators, artists, cultural organizations and school administrators came together for a day-long professional development opportunity that featured artists and educators from the Adirondack Region as well as other AE specialists from around the state.

 In 2008 the AAIEP launched a series of Artist Networking Gatherings in Essex County, NY. The intent was to bring together the artist community in a relaxed and casual setting, in the comfort of a regional artist's home. Invitations were sent by e-mail, by phone and by word of mouth and artists were encouraged to bring a sample of their work as well as their business cards.
Held in Westport and Upper Jay in February and late March 2008 respectively, the gatherings were highly attended and very well received. Nearly 80 artists(!), including several AAIEP Consortium members, left the warmth of their homes to join others for food and drink, good conversation and even some spontaneous music making!
