| Artist Gathering #2 |
On Wednesday, May 19th several regional artists gathered at the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts (NCCCA) in Plattsburgh for a lively discussion about exciting opportunities for working with children and community. Performing, visual and literary arts were well-represented by the artists in attendance and ranged from well-known regional artists to newcomers.
Conversation centered on forthcoming opportunities for artists to sell, market and demonstrate their art at the annual 2010 Mayor's Cup Celebration in downtown Plattsburgh, after-school and community programming through the NCCCA and other regional cultural organizations, and how artists can positively impact students' lives by working with teachers to address curricular needs and bring arts into the classroom. In general, artists were excited to meet and talk with other like-minded individuals with similar interests in art, community and in working with children. In addition, artists expressed a shared desire to learn about curricula being covered in schools, to find teachers who would like to work with an artist in their classroom and to generate ideas for projects - all topics to be addressed in follow-up Artist Series sessions, co-sponsored by the NCCCA and the Adirondack Arts in Education Partnership.Want to see more pics?
