Matching funds are required by many grants. They are the contribution made by the granted partners to show commitment to the project. The LCB grant is a matching grant and as such, LCB applicants must show that for every dollar they request from the grant program, they have secured at least one matching dollar in income.

Matching funds may be a combination of cash and in-kind resources. The cash portion of the match for LCB grants must be at least 25% of the grant request amount. Cash may come from the school and/or the cultural partner, but the school must contribute at least half of the cash.

Examples of cash include:

• Substitute teacher fees
• Teacher after-school fees
• Busing
• Materials

Examples of in-kind contributions include non-cash donations of:

• Time spent by teachers after school
• Materials from outside groups
• Volunteer time

Matches can also come from fundraisers, local businesses, a PTO, district professional development funds, Title 1 funds, and other sources such as BOCES aid.
